This is part of my Cloth Diapering Series. You may want to check out my previous post on what items I bought for my little routine.
Ok, let's start with clean diapers and inserts.
Clean Diapers! I use a cover with an insert placed inside. For overnight, traveling or heavy wetters, I use 2 insert to double up.
Stinky Diaper removal! Dirty Diapers get placed in the trug at changing station. If cover is not soiled, I simply place inserts in trug and reuse the cover with clean insert(s). If both are soiled, they both go in the trug and both new cover and new insert are used.
Stinky Diapers on Hold! Many folks leave their diapers in the collection/laundry basket until wash day. I usually take my trug with dirty diapers to the laundry room whenever I get a minute and I go ahead and allow them to soak. If they are wet, I just add them to the water to soak. If they are pooped on, I rinse them off and then add them to the soaking trug.
Laundry! I usually do laundry about 2 times per week. All of my covers, inserts, and wipes go in the same load. I usually run a cold quick wash with 1/4 of recommended laundry detergent. At this point, I take out any pooped stained items and place in the sun on my deck. They will go in my next diaper wash in a few days after stains have been removed by sun(this usually takes 3-4 hours in the sunlight). Then I run a hot load with 1/4 recommended detergent. Then I run an extra rinse load on hot and the I throw everything in the dryer. Of course follow your specific manufacture recommended washing instructions depending on the cloth diaper brand you choose to use.
All Clean Again! I then take my clean cover and inserts back to my changing station and start over!
Cheating! I also keep disposable inserts on hand. These are chlorine free and biodegradable. I use these when we'r going out, vacations, when I'm sick or life just gets too ridiculously hectic and I need a break! I really don't use them that often, but it feels more relaxed to know that I have the option if I need it.
